What do you say in a personal reference letter?

A recommendation letter starts like any other formal letter, with the employer’s (recipient) information or a general address. It should have the date, a short explanation of your relationship with the candidate and how long you have known them. Let the employer know what you think of the candidate’s skills and work performance. In the end, include your own information (title, credentials if necessary, and contact info).
