Whats the difference between parole and probation?

While probation is prior or an alternative to jail time, parole comes after jail time. Parole allows an inmate early release from prison, but they must still be supervised by prison authorities. Its function is to reintegrate the person who was incarcerated back to society. Also the conditions of probation are set in court while the parole are set by a parole board.
